i was wondering if the +2 range from master of the arena in the duelist skill tree would increase the aoe range of reave by a lot. to understand that, i would like to understand the machanics of how the aoe range of reave is calculated.

i use a claw + shield and carcass jack.

every stage of reave adds 20% more aoe range. what is the multiplicator of 20% per stage based on?

It works like this, reave has base radius of 10 (rough estimate, might be a bit more) in a 180 degs arc. Each stage adds 20% more to that, for a 160% more with all 8 stacks bringing you to a final radius of 26.

If you have both AoE clusters at witch and templar, that gives you 40% increased radius which equals to 14. Applying 160% multiplicative bonus from all stages to that equals 36,4.

Master of arena doesn't benefit skills like reave, cleave, sweep, ground slam or splash. It says '+2 to melee weapon range' not '+2 to radius' so the only AoE skill it affects is cyclone which explicitly uses weapon range to determine the radius. If you are just interested in mechanics, if Master of Arena did apply, it would apply to base, before all other bonuses.

And if you are concerned if Reave can reach the edges of the screen, it can :)

Almost sure that is the kind of things that was fine tuned in test, i'd say it's safe to assume it's intenteded.

Most likely. To reach upper and lower edge of the screen, which is quite enough to reach ranged monsters way back, you need to get both AoE clusters. One is in templar area and other bonuses there make it worth the trip but the one in witch area is a bit far. Also probably intentionally, Reave works best with highs speed attackers, rangers, shadows and duelists, which are on the opposite side of area nodes, shadow might reach witch aoe cluster easily but templar is a bit far.

Corpse jack, too, is not an item that will suit every build and increased area gem has some very juicy alternatives.

You can either go for range on reave and almost sustain it in high density areas or you can go for speed and build the stacks in a fraction of a second, almost catching up to dual wield cleave in damage due to conc effect gem while still being able to use a shield and retaining a decent AoE on max stacks.
Most common setup is:

- Multistrike (a must)
- Concentrated Effect
- Melee Physical
optional
- Life on Hit
- Faster Attacks

High Aoe version swaps conc for area gem, sacrificing 70% multiplicative damage boost for huge area. Templar or Witch area builds with both clusters swap conc for added fire or such to get extra damage and keep the area.

Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

hmm thinking meele phys on full,meele phys,conc effect,faster attacks , multistrike , reave.

was gonna go added fire instead of conc effect but pherhaps conc effect is better , only have the templar nodes though.
